An Interview with Amber Jones of Platinum Pleasures Adult Novelty, LLC



Platinum Pleasures Adult Novelty LLC was founded by Amber Jones, March of 2016.  The main goal and objective is to provide adult novelties and educational services to its open-minded customer, inclusive to the LGBTQ community. The goal is to make every environment Platinum Pleasures is placed, into a learning experience. Helping them feel seductive yet informed about the products used to enhance their sexual health.  At Platinum Pleasures, they believe that no matter your sexual orientation, curiosity, or gender, the best and only way to know who you are and what you like is to be informed! 



 
What was your motivation to start your own business?

What motivated me to start my own business was the inequality and lack of fairness that I experienced in corporate America. Around the time that I was experiencing this first hand I also had a Rep from a different company trying to get me to sign on to her team. The company was also an adult novelty company however, they had rules, regulations, etc on who could attend, the do’s and don’ts etc. I found that those restrictions excluded the type of people who really needed the additional the sex tips, education, boost in confidence as well as only added to making the subject more uncomfortable and taboo. Which is why I am inclusive to men, and the LGBTQ community.


Walk me through some of the first few steps you took to get to where you are today? 

To be honest, faith, prayer, and discipline has gotten me where I am. Before I launched I studied the market I wanted to enter. I prayed for guidance and I was very adamant about what I wanted my business to be and the impact that I wanted it to have. I asked questions, I tested products, and hired others to do the same. I researched my competitors, I took notes but most importantly I took my time. I did things that some may not suggest but when I became stagnant or lost and confused I took a step back to reanalyze and create a new plan to execute. Things change all the time, so I learned early that you have to learn how to adapt to those changes, and know that it wont be easy! 



What has been your biggest challenge so far?

So far, the biggest challenge for me has been marketing. In this day of social media, a lot of businesses are able to pay for promotional boost, sponsorship etc. However, because of the type of business I have and since I started from the ground up there are certain things I am not able to do via social media outlets like Facebook, or Instagram and that is one of them. So for me I depend on a lot of word of mouth, and face to face interactions.


How did you overcome this challenge?

I was able to overcome the challenge by accepting it and finding other outlets. What works for others may not work for me and that is okay. That’s when you challenge the challenge and make it work for you!


If a young person walked up asking your advice and only had a few minutes, what would be your best advice?

My advice would be a mixture of some of the most cliché things every said like “Plan your work and work your plan”. And “If you stay ready you do not have to get ready”! And to keep a notebook of some sort to input all of your ideas, and plans, but most importantly write down goals and break them up into 30, 60, 90-day plans. That way it will keep you on track and build your confidence as you knock things off.
