Sheri-Ann Best, LCSW owns Broadhollow Psychotherapy, PLLC, a Group Psychotherapy practice based in Farmingdale, NY. Some of the services provided at Broadhollow Psychotherapy, PLLC include individual, group and family therapy and psychiatric services, evaluations and medication management for all ages.
What was your motivation to start your own business?:
I got tired of the bureaucracy and red tape of working for government regulated mental health clinics and knew I could do more meaningful work on my own. But, truthfully it's been a long time goal of mine. I came into the profession knowing I would have my own practice one day.
Walk me through some of the first steps you took to get to where you are today.
I looked for the guidance of others who were where I wanted to be. I joined social media groups of others in the field. I did lots of research.
What has been your biggest challenge so far?:
Learning the business aspects of mental health care, developing a personal brand and expanding.
How did you overcome this challenge?:
Networking, networking, networking!
A young person walks up to you asking advice and only has a few minutes, what is your advice?
Small business is the backbone of this country. When people tell you you can't do something, they're really telling you what they can't do. Don't let anyone tell you who you are and what you can do. There's enough information out there to learn how to do anything. Don't let fear hold you back from your dreams.
